Emily Gallagher
Fountain of Arrested Development, 2021
Air dry clay, glow-in-the-dark glitter glue, amethyst, flourite, water, pump, LED lights
23 x 21 x 21cm
I use sometimes disparate materials, processes and aesthetics to try and navigate the indiscernible spaces of identities/experiences/histories.
I think I’m hoping for a kind of pathos exchange between the viewers, the physicality of the work and fragments of myself reflected in the work. Maybe it moves around between all of these in every combination, back and forth and some of it remains, absorbed?
Messing up the rites of passage into adulthood/selfhood, trapped in a coming-of-age narrative. What should be a natural instinct is a mystery to me.
Perpetual youth is maybe not so desirable ¯_(ツ)_/¯ ?
