Save the Queen, 2021
Oil paint on perspex
21 x 29.7cm
'Save the Queen' is a stream of consciousness borne out of contemporary issues and news cycles. Its informed by an initial call to sovereign powers, where there were once monarchs, now there are crumbling nation states and governments, tech corporations are the new sovereign powers. This work is entirely composed of painted interpretations of fragments of found images on the internet, blended to create a new narrative. 'Save the queen' embraces the distortions of faded memories, broken URLs and traces of images of things that we once knew.
I am a fierce supporter of the local artistic community across disciplines. I want to be part of creating a healthy arts community built on economies of trust, kindness and collaboration. It is an ethical responsibility to contribute to the sustainability of arts practice in our current climate. Lastly, I want to create opportunities for more younger emerging artists of diverse backgrounds and experiences.
