Through my practice, I question the conventions of photography and the photograph and its ability to capture and reproduce what is perceived as real.

Our primary exchange with a photograph — whether it be a portrait, landscape or still life — is often symbolic, that is, with what is presented to us within a flat, still image. My work seeks to change to change the understandings of the photograph and how a viewer might encounter it. Exploring the materiality of the photographic image, found imagery, blocking out, erasure and embracing the so-called technical inaccuracies creates an intriguing paradox that shifts the photograph from symbolic to the cognitive.
